NUTCRACKER
CBLA Nutcracker

Our story takes place 1941 in the home of the Shook Family
on Christmas Eve. The Sugar Plum Fairies have come to
spread magic and joy in the house where Maria now lives.
To old to continue living at the Los Angeles Orphanage,
Maria was taken in by the Shook family and now works for
them. She is very happy here. The family waits for their guest
to arrive for their Christmas Eve Party, Uncle Taubes will be
there to give the children from the Orphanage beautiful gifts
and friends will be there to welcome home the Shook’s
eldest son Jim from the war. When Jim arrives, the guest all
cheer and are happy to see him most of all Maria who has
always longed for him. As the party winds down the guest
have all gone and Maria is left to clean up after the party.
Maria falls asleep in the beautiful dress that Uncle Taubes
had given her and dreams of all the wonderful places he
has told her about on his travels. While she sleeps she
holds the strong wooded nutcracker that Jim had given her
for Christmas. Uncle Taubes has something to do with this
dream. As he leaves he waves his hands around Maria’s
head and leaves the party. Maria dreams of a great snow
storm that whisk her away to different lands she visits
Mexico, Arabia, Korea, and ends up at a beautiful Ball where
she dances with Jim and the court makes her there Princes.
